Chapter 2: Convincing the Hentai Protagonist to Be Loyal and Responsible

Volume 1

Ning Chu was jolted awake by the noise in the dorm.

He opened his bleary eyes and stared at the stained ceiling above.

Zhang Shaoqing’s loud, profanity-laced ranting echoed through the room, mixed with the rapid clack-clack-clack of Wang Jie furiously mashing his keyboard during a game.

He had just woken up from a very bad dream.

Still, the noise didn’t irritate him.

The images from his dream flashed through his mind, making his mood even heavier.

In the dream, he had really turned into a woman—just like in that ridiculous scene from the novel—and ended up doing all sorts of indecent things with Wen Yang...

‘Don’t tell me… it really is me?’

Worried, Ning Chu sat up and stared at the back of his own pale, delicate hand. He could feel his heart pounding faster as he muttered to himself, “Sure, I look kind of girly right now, but I still have all the parts a guy should have.”

That said, he was only 160 cm tall, with a slim, fragile frame.

His voice had that soft, youthful tone—too androgynous to be easily identified as male or female.

And his features were undeniably pretty. He didn’t even need makeup. If he just let his hair grow out, he could easily pass for a cute girl.

Ning Chu glanced down at his chest—flat as a runway. Two small bumps poked faintly against his thin sleep shirt.

It had started a few days ago. At the time, he’d chalked it up to the dorm's air conditioning being too cold. But now…

He carefully pressed his chest with both hands.

There was a tiny jolt of pain.

Uneasy, Ning Chu immediately jumped out of bed, practically leaping down the ladder and rushing into the balcony bathroom.

After checking himself thoroughly, he felt a bit more at ease.

All good. Maybe not super energized, but clearly still a guy.

“You sure are noisy for someone who just woke up.” Zhang Shaoqing appeared on the balcony, a cigarette dangling from his lips. Leaning against the railing, he exhaled a puff of smoke and glanced over at Ning Chu, who had just come out of the bathroom. “Wanna order lunch together? We can hit the discount.”

For someone who looked like a classic troublemaker from middle school, Zhang Shaoqing was the typical rich second-generation brat—yet always weirdly stingy about saving a few bucks through delivery app discounts.

Ning Chu knew this guy was the villain in the story—the kind who did things so vile, even a dog would cover its eyes. So he’d never had a good impression of him.

“No thanks. I’m on a diet.”

Besides, he didn’t have much of an appetite anyway.

It had been a week since he transmigrated, and he still wandered around in a daze every day. He had no idea what role he played in the story.

Surely he’s not that girl character, right?

“You’re short and skinny, and still dieting? How are you gonna grow taller?” Zhang Shaoqing looked him up and down, face full of smiles. “Why not just go to Thailand and get the surgery? Become a chick for real.”

That comment stabbed right into Ning Chu’s heart.

If Zhang Shaoqing weren’t a whole head taller than him, he would’ve kicked his shin on the spot.

When he first crossed over, Ning Chu had imagined his life here taking off. Now, he’d fully given up on that dream. As long as he could stay out of the chaotic mess that was the novel’s plot, he’d be grateful.

After brushing his teeth and washing up at the sink on the balcony, Ning Chu quietly returned to the dorm like usual, keeping to himself.

It was the second week of freshman year. None of the roommates really knew each other that well yet, and arguments were common.

Right now, Wang Jie and Wen Yang were butting heads again—this time about laundry.

Ning Chu ignored the drama and sat back down at his desk, yawning while browsing food delivery apps, even if he wasn’t actually planning to eat anything.

“Come on, Ning Chu, tell me—who the hell only does laundry once a week? Last weekend Wang Jie left his clothes soaking in a bucket so long they stank!”

“I was too lazy, okay? And didn’t I clean it up once I noticed the smell?”

The crossfire ended up hitting Ning Chu too. He turned toward them, face full of despair, and rolled his eyes silently at their argument.

The noise didn’t last long.

Wen Yang couldn’t out-argue Wang Jie and ended up muttering to himself as he grabbed a chair and sat next to Ning Chu, launching into a nonstop rant about Wang Jie’s bad habits.

“He never does his laundry, fine. But he also kicks the door open every night when he gets back. I’ve been woken up by that more times than I can count. And no matter how many times I say something, he doesn’t change.”

“His keyboard’s loud as hell too. And don’t even get me started on his snoring—I haven’t had a proper night’s sleep in two weeks.”

Ning Chu absentmindedly responded with, “Mm. Yeah.”

“My girlfriend wants to hang out this afternoon,” Wen Yang continued. “She told me not to come back to the dorm tonight. What do you think that means?”

“Oh— Wait, what?!”

Ning Chu suddenly snapped to attention, eyes wide. “When did you get a girlfriend?!”

Seeing the dorm’s resident introvert suddenly shocked like that, Wen Yang lit up with amusement and kept going. “Just a couple of days ago. I thought she was really pretty and had a nice personality.”

“But it’s only been two days, and she already asked me out—and told me not to come back tonight.”

Wen Yang had a look of excitement on his face. “You think that’s a hint?”

Ning Chu froze for a moment and asked, “What’s her name?”

“Ling Ling.”

‘…So it really is her.’

The plot was starting.

In the first short arc of the novel, a girl named Ling Ling seduced Wen Yang and took the lead in their relationship.

But in truth, Ling Ling was Zhang Shaoqing’s childhood friend—someone he’d secretly loved for years. That first chapter was probably the turning point where he began to spiral into villainy.

Ning Chu turned to look at Zhang Shaoqing, who was still smoking on the balcony. The rich second-gen noticed the glance and shouted through the glass door:

“What are you eating? If our order hits 30 yuan we get 5 yuan off! Come on, let’s get the discount!”

‘This guy…’

If he could stop Wen Yang now, maybe Zhang Shaoqing could stay like this—just a silly, stingy rich kid—instead of turning into the immoral, unhinged villain from the book.

And if the mysterious woman in the dorm really is him, then maybe stopping the story from progressing could save him from a future where he got railed by the protagonist…

Wen Yang nudged Ning Chu’s shoulder and asked, “So, should I go? I mean, we’ve only known each other for two or three days, and even if she is the one making moves, isn’t that a little too fast?”

Wen Yang is the protagonist, after all—he’s tall, fit, and has a bright, sunny face that gives off major Daniel Wu vibes. Girls were drawn to him like flies to honey.

It had only been two weeks since school started, and he’d already gotten a girlfriend through a girl chasing him.

Ning Chu thought for a moment, then tried to talk him out of it. “You really shouldn’t go. If you can’t control yourself and end up doing it with her and make her pregnant, you’ll have to take responsibility.”

“…You’re right.”

Seeing Wen Yang nod along, Ning Chu felt a strange sense of accomplishment rise in his chest.

Other people were out there reforming promiscuous characters—he was over here convincing a hentai protagonist to be responsible.

“But she was hinting at me, man. And she didn’t seem like she cared that much about what might happen…” Wen Yang looked conflicted. “I wasn’t allowed to date at all in high school. I’m already eighteen, and I haven’t even held a girl’s hand.”

Ning Chu paused, then offered, “Why don’t we all hang out as a dorm tonight?”

“A dorm hangout? We asked you to come when school first started and you refused to death.” Wen Yang frowned. “And besides, I’ve got a date. I won’t be back.”

“I said don’t go. We could grab some drinks and shoot the breeze. Wouldn’t that be more fun than a date?”

Wang Jie overheard that last part about drinks and lit up. “Date? Nah, bro time is more important! Ning Chu didn’t even show up last time—we’re not partying without a full set tonight!”

Wen Yang looked genuinely torn. “But I’m almost out of spending money…”

“My treat!”

Zhang Shaoqing suddenly chimed in from the balcony, swaggering in like a rich punk. “Tonight’s on me!”
